Spring Cleaning: How to Clean Your Glass Piece

How often you clean your glass pieces depends on how often you smoke out of them.

We recommend to clean your piece every few days if you are an every day smoker. If you're not sparking up on a daily basis, clean your piece when you start to see resin buildup or if it starts to look brown and discolored. For water pipes, it’s wise to change your bong or bubbler water every day to prevent the growth of bacteria.

Keeping your pieces clean is important for many reasons, including the flavor and quality of the cannabis you are smoking, as well as your health. Smoking from a dirty pipe can cause respiratory irritation and put you at risk for lung infection, which is easily avoidable.

Don't fret, we've got you covered. Here are some ways to clean your glass pieces with supplies you have at home.

Let's Get Started

  • Coarse salt (kosher salt is great)

  • Rubbing Isopropyl (preferably 91% or 99%)

  • Pipe cleaners

  • A rag

  • Ziploc bag (optional)

The Process

  1. Remove all detachable parts from your piece and rinse all pieces thoroughly with hot water.

  2. Soak your piece in water or rubbing alcohol first if your piece has been long-neglected.

  3. Pour rubbing isopropyl  + coarse salt into your piece.

  4. Cover the stem or any openings, and shake vigorously. You could put it in a Ziploc or cover the openings with a rag to protect your hands. Repeat this process until your piece starts seeing the light of day again.

  5. Make sure to rinse your piece with hot water after all is said and done, to get all of the residual smell and alcohol out. Let it dry.

  6. And now, stoners….it’s time to smoke.
